Candidate criteria

This course is suitable for candidates aged 16+ who have less than three years’ work experience in roof tiling and / or slating.

Ideally candidates should be working in the roofing industry, however, for those candidates who are not in full-time employment, they must be able to get work experience from time to time with an employer who would consider employing them after successful completion of the course.

To begin the course, all candidates are required to take a  CITB skills test prior to enrolment.

Course attendance

This is a 2-year framework to achieve Level 2 Construction Diploma in Roof Slating & Tiling (workshop element of the programme) and the Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Roof Slating & Tiling is achieved via On-site Assessment).
Students are required to attend 3 days a week – Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays for a 4-week period and return to their employer for 4 weeks.  This is repeated until the workshop programme is completed, assessors will then visit the students in the workplace to carry out observations for the NVQ2 element of the course.

Course materials

As the courses are practical, you need to wear suitable work clothing and provide your own safety boots. We encourage students to bring their own tools, although the Training Centre can provide tools if required.  Materials and further safety clothing and equipment for use on the course are provided by the Training Centre. Tea and coffee making facilities are available at the Centre, but you will need to bring your own lunch.

Funding

There are grants available for companies registered with CITB.

There may be some Adult Learning Response funding available for students not in full-time employment.

The CITB Apprenticeship programme is supported by the European Social Fund.
